MUSIC MONDAY

My Advent Week #2 playlist is up for your listening pleasure! 
This Spotify playlist is all the song i listened to on the second week of Advent and Spottily is great because i can share love with you! 

Honestly the Kings Kaleidoscope’s version of Come Thou Long Expected Jesus is by far my most listened to song this past week and probably will be next week… it’s so good! I have a bit of a hard time recommending their music because they come from Mark Driscoll’s church. And yea, i’m just not a huge Mark Driscoll fan. Sorry if you are, read day 13 in the Advent book if you want to know why i don’t like Pastor Mark. There are a few other reason as well. 

Regardless, Kings Kaleidoscope is REALLY good! Check out their Christmas album and all their albums actually, really good stuff! And Come Thou Long Expected Jesus is on the week #2 playlist, make sure you give it a listen.

My Noisetrade recommendation for the week is Sufjan Stevens. He’s been on both my 1st and 2nd week Spotify playlist. He’s prolific, has a ton of good stuff! He’s quirky, you probably won’t like it all but let it play, you’ll enjoy it!

N.T. WRIGHT :: Surprised by Hope

This is the first session of 6 in a series by N.T. Wright  (this link will take you to the Youtube page where you can watch all 6 videos)

The videos are suppose to be a companion to the book Surprised by Hope for small groups and study groups. The videos are great even if you haven’t read the book.  

Surprised by Hope is an amazing book! It’s not an easy read but if you want to be challenged and if you want to grow in your biblical and theologic knowledge, you’ve got to read this book! Buy it on Amazon today! 

If this book is a little to challenging I would suggest you start with N.T. Wright’s book Simply Christian.  Then check out Wright’s book on the Bible, Scripture and the Authority of God.
After you’ve read those pick up Surprised By Hope. Once you’ve read that, then pick up After You Believe. Also really good but very challenge and not quite as good as Surprised By Hope. 

Boom! There is your NT Wright for the day!
You can’t go wrong with Wright! 

Revelation 21:1-8
[ A New Heaven and a New Earth ]

1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. Light a real candle as you pray. It symbolizing the presence or Christ, so spend some time in prayer. 

Today’s meditation is from Fr. Richard Rohr. He’s a Franciscan friar and priest.
 His devotional work and his books are amazing, thought a little "out there" at times.  

His Advent book that I quoted today is the best Advent devotional I have found!
That’s a tip for next year! 

I also recently listened to a teaching series of his entitled The Art of Letting Go. I picked it up on Audible and it was phenomenal! 

You can check out Fr. Rohr's center, The Center for Action and Contemplation, he has a ton of youtube videos and some writing out there as well. You will be glad you did! 

Also, here’s another scripture to think about during this week of Hope! 

Romans 15:13 (NIV)

13. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Your challenge for today is to write a one paragraph answer to the question,

“Why do you have so much hope?" 

This paragraph is the answer to the questions "why are you a Christian” or “why do you live so differently” or “why don’t you do what everyone does” etc.
This is a one paragraph testimony / telling of why you have faith, hope and love in Jesus Christ. 

Take a picture of your paragraph (write it on an index card) and post it on your instagram, Facebook and/or twitter accounts. Then pray God would help you to have some good conversations!
